Safety Basics

Your safety is important. Take it seriously. We do.

Here are four quick tips which will make you safer:

  • Ask for rides at petrol stations instead of signaling at the roadside.

  • Trust your instincts.

  • Refuse rides from impaired drivers.

  • Know that hitchhiking at night is more dangerous than during the daytime.

Review Profiles and References Carefully

While giving a ride, take the time to carefully review hitchhiker profiles. Read what hitchhikers say about themselves and what other members have said about them. Give yourself the time to thoroughly read through all the information available and don’t compromise. If you’re uncomfortable, feel free to say no.

Trust your instincts

If a person, situation or profile seems unsafe for any reason, move on. Don’t worry about seeming rude. Be clear about your boundaries and don’t be shy about stating them. Communicate clearly with others and take care of yourself.

Have A Backup Plan

Know your options. Make sure you have an alternate plan. If something doesn’t work out on your ride, get out and get a new ride or go with a public transport

Know Your Limits

Partying like a rockstar might be fun, but it puts your safety and well-being in the hands of others.

Leave References

Use the Reference System to let others know. Feel free to report the negative experiences. The other member won’t see your reference until they leave theirs. Our Trust and Safety team is here to help build the safest and most trusted community possible.
